Spanish artist Andrea Castro blurs the faces of her subjects, adding twists of colors and at times embroiders them with pearls. Her oil paintings examine the idea of identity and play with the personalities of the characters she creates. The mix of messy brush strokes and beautifully painted portraits form a contemplative balance in her subjects.
“I want the observer to identify with my own artistic idiom and to vent of all those feelings we all have felt overtaking ourselves at some point. To do that I create internal conversations with the subjects of my paintings, they tell me what they want to transmit as I’m giving them shape. Once the character’s figurative part begins to become more clear, they will take over my work and express what they want.” – Andrea Castro
