There may be pandemonium in Brooklyn tomorrow when a crowd of piñata bashers are unleashed on a giant Golden Calf filled with over 1000 dollar bills. Chilean artist and designer Sebastian Errazuriz has constructed the enormous idol to be the finale at this year’s NYC x Design Festival, and its purpose is three-fold: to symbolize celebration, capitalism, and “anti-capitalistic” greed. The artist anticipates that once the the calf is beaten sufficiently, the money will rain down on the mob of anti-capitalistic piñata beaters- who may (ironically) end up stuffing their pockets with cash. “I’d like to see people rolling on the ground and fighting for dollars,” he said. Whether that happens or not, we’ll have to wait and see.

Errazuriz’s golden calf will be on view at Industry City in Sunset Park, Brooklyn until 5pm tomorrow, May 20th- at which point the madness should ensue.
