To be honest, we have no fucking idea what is going on with the Treehotel in the small northern village of Harads, Sweden, but it looks like the most amazing place and hotel in the world we can think of. And you are literally a stone’s throw from Santa Claus. One of the rooms/or whatever it is is a almost invisible mirrored treehouse. See?

Bugged out. Here is the Treehotel’s overall Philosophy:

Well, with the help of a group of well known designers and architects, we have now turned the idea into a reality. We have a group of unique rooms created in harmony with nature, and with our ecological values. They are all set in the forest where we live, a refinement of the local conditions. “Dig where you stand” as the saying goes.

It is important that we find another way to value the forest, rather than to cut the trees for industrial use. This Boreal forest is one of the Earth’s lungs. We need to look after it.

Our inspiration came from the documentary film “Trädälskaren” (Treelover) by Jonas Selberg Augustsen. It is the story of three men from the urban environment who look to get back to their roots by building a tree house together. It is a philosophical film about what “the tree” means to us humans, both historically and culturally.

It has been our inspiration to expand the idea into a hotel, with the added dimension of innovative modern design.

We are working to make the construction and daily running of the Tree Houses as green as possible, which is consistent with our values and, we hope, yours too.

Nice one for Boogie, as he was on Photo District News‘ “Photo of the Day” section the other day. He talked at length about his new show at Carmichael Gallery. This was a nice line:

“(The show is) totally new work mostly of normal day-to-day life, and much of it in color. After years and years of shooting only b&w film, I started seeing images in color some time last year, and it opened up a whole new world for me.”

Selectism caught this one, and we have to say, of all the web videos we have watched in the past month, this one is quite good. This was the quote attached to it, “Meet Rocky Salemmo. He’s a ramblin’ gamblin’ man. For the majority of his adult life Rocky has hustled bowling for a living. Here is his story. A short documentary about booze, broads and bowling.” The film is by Sean Dunne. Enjoy.

Dirty Hands San Francisco Dirty Hands Reviewed in SF Chronicle San Francisco Roxie Theater review harry kim documentary dirty hands david choe

Our presentation of Dirty Hands got a pretty solid review in the San Francisco Chronicle this week.  Check out the Dirty Hands review here. To summarize into a sentence they say you’ll feel “Bored. Exhilarated. Offended. Illuminated. Disoriented. All in the same minute.”

And to see the movie for yourself, it’ll be playing all week at the Roxie Theater, but after the week’s up, it’ll disappear back into the underground, so catch it while you can.
