We love Jeremy Fish on tour. He is kind of a rock star as is, so this will be his Pearl Jam moment in Seattle. After his stop this last Saturday at FIFTY24PDX (check out pictures here), Jeremy Fish is on his way to FIFTY24 Seattle this Saturday evening as part of his ‘The Road Less Traveled’ tour. The opening party will be going from 6PM – 9PM this Saturday, July 17th. Jeremy will be there, some new art by him will be there, the infamous Jeremy Fish van will be there, and good times of epic proportions will be there.

Well, if you do artwork for the band for most of their career, they should help you out a bit, right? Radiohead posted on their blog this picture of Thom Yorke helping Stanley with some painting. And with Mr Donwood headed to SF and his show at FIFTY24SF, this is all very exciting.
Boogie has a new show opening at Carmichael Gallery in Culver City tonight, called The Uncovering. Everyone should go and check it out if they can… and if you can’t, go look at some of his books, shirts, and hoodies in our webstore.

FIFTY24SF Gallery alum, UK’s Lucy McLauchlan, has a new solo show opening up, Together, at Lazarides Gallery in London this Friday, July 1. And we like this video of Lucy painting the Lazarides stairs, which could be old or new, but its cool nonetheless.
Stanley Donwood, who will be showing at FIFTY24SF Gallery in September, has sold out of version #1 of his Glastonbury 2010 print, the one seen above, so now he is printing a slightly different version so some of us fans can get another chance. I’m easily influenced, and I’m painting pictures using these words and the seven colours in a way that I like to think is fairly true to the signs and advertisements I saw in Los Angeles all that time ago.
(Actually, I checked when I was there recently, and I’m not doing too badly.)
So I paint rectangles of all the seven colours, and then I paint the words on top of the rectangles. The words must stand out. They should be as vibrant as possible. This is like advertising. My favourite kind of advertising is that found on packets of detergent, bottles of toilet cleaner and bleach, et cetera. It’s fucking amazing. If you spend enough time in the aisles of supermarkets that deal with household cleaning products and you will see what I mean. Last year I almost got a job at the supermarket so that I could stack the shelves in that aisle every once in a while, but fortunately my girlfriend informed me that it was a stupid idea.
Well, anyway, this is about making the paintings of words from spam and colours from Los Angeles, not supermarkets or bleach.
When I have seven colours to paint with, one thing that’s important is to keep the colours away from each other, so, for example, blue isn’t next to blue. Another thing is to avoid a sort of chess-board effect, which means keeping, say, a red corner away from another red corner.

Rene Almanza had a whirlwind few weeks, coming to SF from Mexico for a show at 111 Minna, and then right off again to RAS Gallery in Barcelona for a solo show. He took some photos of his installation, and a few sites around Barcelona.
