Lili and Arturo from FIFTY24MX and Upper Playground Mexico City sent us some pictures of the arrival of work for The Lost Ones, a great group show curated by Marsea Goldberg of New Image Art in Los Angeles.
Here is the full press release:
New Image Art has been one of the engines fueling the Underground art movement on the west coast for more than 15 years. It’s founder and director Marsea Goldberg is responsible for discovering, and solidifying the careers of some of our favorite artists.
This month Marsea will be visiting Mexico City as guest curator for “THE LOST ONES” collective show in FIFTY24MX Gallery.
THE LOST ONES gathers the work of renowned artists, most of them self taught, renegade artists who came from such vast backgrounds as street art, Skate, Illustration, Multimedia.
Showing new pieces from Tim Biskup, Gary Baseman, Shepard Fairey, Matt Furie, Richard Colman, the Date Farmers, Neck Face, Kime Buzelli, Judith Supine, Retna, Cleon Peterson, Herbert Baglione and Miss Bugs.
One eyed monsters, masked heroes, vampire chicks, dear headed children, cannibals in bikini, folkloric robots, flower eyed girls, and even cracked up muppets coexist in the imagery of this show.

Jim Dirschberger & Rinee Shah
July 23rd, 2010

Tonight at FIFTY24SF Gallery is the closing party to Porous Walker’s ‘Haricots Magiques‘ show at FIFTY24SF Gallery which features a film festival of animations, short films, and music videos by SF filmmakers Jim Dirschberger & Rinee Shah. The show will also feature some new illustrative work by Rinee Shah AND raw unseen sketches by Jay Howell, Skinner, Porous Walker and Ferris Plock.
We asked Jim and Rinee 5 questions, and Rinee, whose illustration is above, answered first:
TCR: What are you guys doing tonight at FIFTY24SF Gallery?
Tonight is a showcase of both our films, some of the production artwork from Jim’s animations and some of my illustration.
TCR: How did you guys both meet?
I went to a local film screening that happened to play the first episode of the Forest City Rockers. I was instantly in awe of the humor and style of it. I found Jim after the screening and told him I wanted to be a part of it somehow. Turns out he was super drunk and barely remembers that interaction at all, but we’ve been collaborators and good friends ever since.
TCR: Talk about what you guys both do professionally? Rinee, your music videos? Jim, all the films you have done with Ferris Plock, Kelly Tunstall, Skinner, Porous…
I work as a freelance Art Director in advertising, mostly on web and video projects. Outside of that, I started a film collective called Church & Steak with Josh Lowman, and we’ve put out two music videos in the last year for Benoit Pioulard and Memoryhouse. We feel lucky that both videos have been received so well and are grateful to be able to work with bands that really inspire us.
TCR: Talk about Forest City Rockers?
Punks Git Cut!
TCR: Both of you, plug as much as you possibly can about yourself?
I think I fall somewhere in between a designer/illustrator and a filmmaker, and I love it when I’m able to work on a project that combines it all. My videos have screened locally at SF Indiefest, SF Shorts, and SFIAAFF and most recently at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles. You can see my work here: www.rineeshah.com.

Forgot how cool this Glen Beck illustration from Munk One was

This illustration was done awhile ago for Juxtapoz, and Munk One just killed it on this depiction of uber-dick Glenn Beck and his McCarthyism ways. Sometimes it amazes us who gets to be famous in this world…

Jeff Soto mural in Chelsea, NYC
June 30th, 2010Juxtapoz posted some pics of Jeff Soto’s new mural that he did in Chelsea, in conjunction with his newest solo show, Lifecycle, at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. You almost forgot the Soto had a bit of a graffiti past, as his fine art has sort of taken over in terms of his notoriety. We are definitely into the new work. New colors, characters are evolving, and some new universes being explored.
This is our favorite piece:
