When you can’t take it to the streets, take it to the skies. Saber is taking the message of ending the ban that LA City Council has placed on murals in Los Angeles since 2002 and plastering it all over the skies using skywriting jets. $10 million is a lot to spend on graffiti abatement without spending a dime on legal mural programs. Pass the message along over twitter with #EndMuralMoratorium and #ArtIsNotACrime at the LA mayor @Villaraigosa.
Dutch artist shows up in LA about once a year or once every few, and has a great new body of work to show at HVW8 in Los Angeles. On September 15, Parra will open a new show of drawings and paintings, The How Original Show.
Here is the rundown from HVW8:
Dutch artist Parra returns to Los Angeles’ HVW8 Art + Design Gallery with The How Original Show. An exhibition consisting of all new work in the form of drawings and paintings, revealing the process of sketch to final piece. Each work is an original, a departure from his well known numbered silkscreen editions.
Parra (b.1976) is best known for his curved post-Pop imagery, highly saturated colors, vibrant hand-drawn letters and worlds inhabited by hybrid, surreal characters. Celebrated by galleries and championed by an underground following from the outset, Parra has quickly become a respected and eclectic artist worldwide. Working across drawing, painting, animation and sculpture, Parra creates an enigmatic and instantly recognizable style that defies easy categorization. Parra is cofounder of cult apparel label Rockwell Clothing and a member of electronic music group Le Le. Parra lives and works in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Exhibition opens Thurs, Sept 15th at 7pm.

We forgot to post this great Escif piece that he did in Los Angeles during his and San’s Road Tour through the West this summer prior to their show at FIFTY24SF Gallery this summer….
How many White Russians would you drink in this thing? The cottages used in the cult-classic Coen Brothers’ film, The Big Lebowski, (where the Dude lived) are on the selling block, and they look a lot nicer now than they did when The Dude was failing to pay his rent and getting his carpet fucked with.
According to the SFGATE, “Built in 1928, these California bungalows, which are located in Venice, received a major overhaul in 2005, including new roofing as well as a new sewer line.
“The cottages are located on 10,628 square feet of property and offer 3,960 square feet of living space. Each of the cottages contains a bedroom, with heating provided by a furnace.
“The exterior of the cottages is surrounded by beautiful and colorful foliage, and the beachfront is just a short stroll away, which — as fans of “The Big Lebowski” will surely agree — is something that the Dude would approve of.”
