Hung jury in David Choe contest…
August 9th, 2010Well, we can’t decide who to crown the winner of the contest. David couldn’t decide either. We blame everyone that submitted for putting us in this predicament, because there’s just too much really good stuff that was submitted to the contest, and it doesn’t seem fair for us to choose when it’s this close… Check out all the submissions for yourself.
We ran through a bunch of ideas around about how to decide the winner of this contest, and basing it purely by Facebook and Twitter shares just didn’t seem to put everyone on an equal enough playing field… We’re not taking any more submissions, but we’ve opened up a democratic voting system on each picture. And it was added to all the submissions at the same time. So next Monday (8/16/10) at noon PST whoever has the most votes for their piece will win a set of David Choe’s Munko Vinyl Toys, a copy of his new book, and a drawing by David himself. Good luck.
Here’s some of the submissions so far:
David Choe Contest
August 2nd, 2010How does a set of David Choe’s ‘Munko’ vinyl figures, a copy of David’s new book, and a drawing done by David sound? Kind of sounds like the first time you heard the opening notes to ‘Billie Jean’ huh?
Well, we’re holding a contest to win all three of those David Choe things. All you have to do is enter the contest here by making a David Choe centric piece of art and submitting it below. What does a ‘David Choe centric piece of art’ mean, you ask? Basically anything with it’s focus in David’s universe. Maybe a portrait of Harry Kim, maybe a painting of David, maybe a rendition of David breaking his nose, we are totally open to interpretation.
We will pick the winner and announce it next Monday, August 9th at 3pm PST. You can view your submissions below and we will factor in how popular the pieces are with the masses by how many Twitter and Facebook shares each one gets.

David Choe ‘Munko’ Vinyl Figures provided by Upper Playground

From our parents at Upper Playground… “Upper Playground has teamed up with Japan’s Good Smile Company to become the official distributor for David Choe’s “Munko” Vinyl Figures. The toys were initially seen as simple sketches on David’s blog, and now following the premiere of the physical Munko toys at San Diego Comic Con in Giant Robot’s booth, Upper Playground is the exclusive wholesaler and distributor for the line of figures.
We have continually been impressed not only by Good Smile Company’s detail and intricacy in their vinyl figures, but also by the innovativeness of their other ventures, and are very excited to begin this partnership between our two companies. The “Munko” line of figures comes in three unique sculpts: Munko, Munkosaur, and Munkette. Munko, is offered in 3 colors and 2 extremely realistic textures. Munkosaur comes in 3 color ways with one in a concrete texture. And Munkette comes in 3 unique color ways.
The figures are available in a set of all 12 toys and individually by blind-box. Both sale versions are available to the public at the Upper Playground web store, and the set is available to distributors exclusively by contacting our wholesale department at: wholesale@upperplayground.com.”
