We haven’t heard from the Liverpool band Clinic in awhile, but this new video for a new single, “I’m Aware,” directed by the great Pete Fowler, and there is a new album Bubblegum, out on October 4. A lot of Clinic news for you this fair Monday morning… watch the video.
Dr. Dre is prepping an entire instrumental album inspired by the Solar System. Pause. Pause some more. Question. Ponder. Wonder. Pause some more.
Dre said the album would be ‘an interpretation of what each planet sounds like’. Okay, that is kind of dope.
“I have the ideas for it. I want to call it ‘The Planets’. I don’t even know if I should be saying this, but fuck it. It’s just my interpretation of what each planet sounds like.”
He added: “I’ve been studying the planets and learning the personalities of each planet. I’ve been doing this for about two years now just in my spare time so to speak. I wanna do it in surround sound. It’ll have to be in surround sound for Saturn to work.”
Well, any worries that the Arcade Fire were not going to be great this time around can go away. This new track “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)” is epic and feels new for the band. Looks like they have done it again. . .
Not quite sure what is weirder? Kanye West showing up at the Facebook offices for what appears to be motivational speaking/performing/singing a new song a cappella, of the fact that he is calling his latest album, or possibly calling it, Good Ass Job… ? Bottom line, we love all of it. Weird and weirder with Kanye means better and better music. Nice suit, too.
We leave you this weekday with one of our favorite musical talents, Panda Bear, and his newest track, “Slow Motion,” which will probably be out on his LP Tomboy.
Really? Are we going to get all high and mighty with M.I.A. because she is self-indulgent and contradictory? Look, we think her whole stance on politics is at odds with her organic free range diet and new husband who prints money with his family name, but we have listened to the new album, like it a lot, find it interesting (not better than the last two, but interesting nonetheless), and we know for a fact that no other pop star, indie star, or any kind of star would play this distorted, awesome mess on purpose on national TV like M.I.A. did on “Letterman” the other night. “Born Free,” is an intense banger, and we appreciate the performance, even though she probably ate at Per Se afterward. Thanks to Pitchfork for the image.
As Pitchfork reported, we can all listen to the new M.I.A. album right now, (its called, ///Y/ and its really out on July 13). The place to listen to it, its called MySpace. Its a network that people use to promote music and the other. We are already fans.
Apparently, Kanye fell out of his chair when he went and visited Madlib to hear some beats, hang out, or just shoot the shit with the Southern California producer, multi-instrumentalist, and rapper known as Lord Quas. Rumor has it, Madlib may have 5 beats/tracks on the new Kanye album due this Fall, with Rza, Pete Rock, and Q-Tip also adding to the Kanye album. That ain’t bad Mr West. Good job getting Madlib in the mix. You will be better for it.
What do you think of this track? We are sort of feeling it, but then again, M.I.A. is sort of coming up big with all her work right now. At least we have a real interesting, budding pop star, as opposed to a boring retread like Lady Gaga.
Although we are sure its on the web somewhere, M.I.A.’s upcoming album ///Y/ is still set for a July 13th release.
We touched on this earlier this week, but M.I.A. is in the Sunday Magazine today. Ryan McGinley shot the photos, and because its 2010, shot a little behind-the-scenes video as well. Thank you to Hypebeast for that head’s up.
