The landmark French New Wave film, Breathless, directed and written by Jean-Luc Godard (co-writer was Truffaut, what a combo!), turns 50th right around now. You watch the film now, and people may miss the significance, but Godard really transformed the idea that the film camera could go anywhere, and this was his first film, maybe his most energetic, and its still a fantastic piece of cinema. Those famous jump cuts are because Godard was using scrap, leftover film to shoot Breathless, which is a cool DIY tidbit.
