FAUX MONEY, FAUX PROBLEMS @ FIFTY24PDX Gallery

Opening at FIFTY24PDX Gallery on Thursday, February 2, the show features works from Gage Hamilton, Zach Yarrington and Stephan Alexandr with the concept being based around the financial crisis. Gage questions the legitimacy of our financial institutions and our relationships with money through re-created scenes from The Alexander Hamilton Project peppered with reactions to the ensuing Occupy controversy, while Zach searches for a utilitarian alternative to the disheartening state of American politics, and Stephan poses a unique question of commodity value.

Faux Money, Faux Problems opens First Thursday, February 2nd from 6:00-10:00pm. All artists will be in attendance. SHK THT will be pumping party jams, and our friends from Gorilla Meats Co. and Red Hook will fill your belly with delicious artisanal meats and seasonal beers. The show will run through March 29^th, 2012.

“High Five!”: Upper Playground Portland’s Five Year Anniversary Opens August 4

Can’t believe it has been 5 years already, but our brothers and sisters to the North in Portland, Oregon are about to celebrate 5 year birthday. They are going to have a big group show at FIFTY24PDX to honor the occasion… here is the press…

Fifty24PDX Gallery presents “High Five!”, a group show featuring artwork from Ryan Bubnis, Bradley Delay, Meredith Dittmar, Jeremy Fish, Sam Flores, Bishop Lennon, Justin Lovato, Munk One, Amy Ruppel, and Skinner.

The evening will also mark the release of a brand new giclée print by Sam Flores, limited to an edition of 50, available exclusively at Upper Playground Portland. Sam Flores will be signing in the gallery from 6pm-9pm. Artists Ryan Bubnis, Bradley Delay, Meredith Dittmar, Bishop Lennon, and Amy Ruppel will be in attendance.

Beer provided by Red Hook, and Over the Top Burger will set up shop outside to slay your hunger with delicious wild game burgers.

The night will continue with the official after party down the street at The Fix at Someday Lounge, with a photo booth, giveaways, and more. DJ Kez, Rev Shines, and Dundiggy will be spinning the best and rarest of hip hop, funk, soul, rare groove, afro-beat, latin, and baile funk.

“How the West Was One” at FIFTY24PDX Gallery

Estevan Oriol, Austin McManus, and Megan McIsaac are showing at FIFTY24PDX Gallery in Portland, in a group exhibition titled, How the West Was One. You have Oriol from LA, McManus from SF, and McIsaac from Portland. The show opens this April 7, which is Thursday.

FIFTY24PDX Gallery is proud to present, “HOW THE WEST WAS ONE,” featuring photographs from Estevan Oriol (Los Angeles), Megan McIsaac (Portland), and Austin McManus (San Francisco). For this show, each photographer represents their city, the style and content unique to artist and landscape. What links these three disparate artists is residing on the West Coast, and the medium by which they express themselves and reflect what they see around them.

Pez and Joshua Blank @ FIFTY24PDX opens tonight, and the last Bike Tour journal

Tonight in Portland, the final chapter of the PEZ x Joshua Blank Bike Tour from SF to PDX goes down, as both artists take “You Can’t Win” to FIFTY24PDX. Joshua Blank sent us his final blog post and story …. so if you are in Portland, go check out the show and say hello to our SF friends. Check out some preview shots here.

Ok so, after leaving Dayton, Pez and I where heka tired and we really just wanted to get to Portland. We imagined that the last leg of our trip was way shorter then it actually turned out to be in reality. We left Dayton around 10 AM and rode along the I,5. Thirty miles to Portland. I was sick of pulling out my big ass camera to take pictures of the same scenic heey-haw crap that I had been photographing during the whole trip. Therefore, I will just describe it to you in the opening of this blog entry….

“You Can’t Win” SF to PDX Bike Tour, Day 1—2

An update from Joshua Blank, about he and PEZ’ travels to FIFTY24PDX Gallery via bus, train, and bike.

We caught the 9:30 bus to Emeryville, excited to get the 10 o’clock train. I told the bus driver that we where supposed to be in first class and he said, “first class is you getting on the bus.”

After arriving at the station, we had time to meet some interesting characters with whom we would ride the train to Eugene.

This boring old man used to build highways in California before he retired. He was returning home to Eugene after visiting family in San Francisco. He does not like cars or planes, he hates them, in fact. However he loves trains and claims that this is the only form of transportation the he believes in. I do not know why talking to him was the most boring thing ever.
