The Radiohead album that keeps on giving, 10 years after its release (Saturday, October 2nd was the real 10-year), and probably the best album released in the 2000-2009 decade, Kid A is getting the 33 1/3 book treatment. What music fan doesn’t remember the opening bars of Kid A’s “Everything In Its Right Place” and think, ‘wow, something hear sounds quite new.” And it still does.

You can pre-order at Amazon right now. Thank you to Selectism for the info.

Thom Yorke Tuesday: “I Might Be Wrong”

When you first bought Amnesiac, Radioheads’ part 2 to Kid A’s part 1 act of 2000-01 releases, you went through the first 4 tracks thinking the album was quite brooding. Then the light turns out at track 5, and in enters “I Might Be Wrong,” a dark, dance number with powerful guitar licks, kick drum pulse, and off-beat bass lines. And if you were like us, it remains one of your favorite Radiohead tracks, with Thom actually singing about personal love and strife as opposed to transports and motorways. Damn good tune, enjoy.

This was the closest you could get to a “single” on the groundbreaking and genre-defying 2000 album, Kid A, from Radiohead. It was spooky, dark, grimy track, the sixth track on the album and the first to feature the 3 guitar line-up that made previous Radiohead efforts to that point stand out. Enjoy.

We had a great night at Stanley Donwood’s “Over Normal” exhibition opening last night in San Francisco. Big crowd that patiently waited out front as we did some last minute cleaning, and a big crowd that stayed the whole night and flowed into Mad Dog later in the evening. Lots of pictures to follow. . . a lot more at FIFTy24SF as well.

Thank you to Stanley Donwood, John Matthias on the OverNormalizer sound installation, Lyndsay Geddes, Indigo, and Duckhorn for the wine.

According to NME, “The group allowed a show in Prague in August last year to be filmed from a variety of angles throughout, and then provided soundboard masters for the film’s soundtrack.”

Good setlist.

Stanley Donwood Giclée and Screen Prints Now Available

September 2nd, 2010

Correlating with the opening of Stanley Donwood’s first-ever U.S. show entitled “Over Normal”, FIFTY24SF Gallery is releasing a line of prints – four using giclée printing methods sized 30″ x 21″, and three screen prints on acid-free archival paper of varying sizes.

One of the larger themes of the exhibition is the use of words collected from spam emails juxtaposed with the seven primary colors that Stanley noticed being utilized in billboard advertising to draw in a person’s attention – the screen prints ‘FORGOT WAS SORRY‘ (25.5″ x 26″) and ‘DESIRE ENLARGMENT‘ (25.5″ x 29.5″) feature these primary colors and are limited to an edition of 40 each.

The other screen print and giclée prints relate to the sound installation that Stanley Donwood and physicist John Matthias have accomplished for the FIFTY24SF Gallery exhibition entitled “The Overnormalizer.”  The installation mimics the result of a neuron firing in an artificial neural network using two sound sources: a voder speaking the words of Spam, and a single violin played by John Matthias – the result is a haunting, unsettling and somehow beautiful ever changing body of sound.  The set of giclée prints are the actual data and raster plots that were used as the starting point for The Overnormalizer and are limited to an edition of 10 each.  And the screen print ‘ ‘NEUROGRANULAR SAMPLE‘ (set of 40) superimposes multiple of these raster plot graphs using the primary seven-color palette that is used in the “Over Normal” exhibition showing at FIFTY24SF Gallery from September 2nd – October 27th.

All prints are available in our online store here.
