The Guardian has another awesome Lego recreation of a World Cup result, this time taking the Netherlands 3-2 victory over Uruguay. A very good way to start your morning, we think. We love the part where the announcer says, “Classic goal.” American broadcasters don’t say cool ass shit like that. Here is the last one we posted at this link.

Everything was rolling for Blur by the time Parklife was released in 1994. They had gone from the next big thing to the Big Thing. “Tracy Jacks” was track #2 from that album, and captures the theatrical pop element that was a bit of Blur’s mantra in the early to mid-1990s. Until, you know, songs about Heroin and no distance left to run came in.

Baseball players that still live with their parents—kind of fresh and forward-thinking if you ask us

We have thought about moving back in with our parents, so if you are a Major League Baseball player, why not live in your childhood room and have your mom do your laundry and make you meals? Especially when you are 23-years old?

Tyson Ross, who plays for our beloved Oakland A’s, still lives in Oakland with mom and dad. He makes $400,000 a year, and doesn’t pay rent. According to this Wall Street Journal article, “League officials say many players head home over the winter, but they believe that only Mr. Ross and Neil Walker, of the Pittsburgh Pirates, return to the nest during the season.”

We like this guy. And he has a girlfriend. Not bad, Mr Ross.

Aaliyah was, plain and simple, an underground, progressive talent in the mainstream world. Timbaland and Missy Elliot took all their amazing beats and gave them to a teenage star, and Aaliyah made the hooks legendary. Yesterday, we were listening to an old mix, and this track, “Are You That Somebody?” from 1998, produced by Timbaland, came on, and it reminded us of being 17, and that is sort of fun.

Not sure how we feel about this. Colleges using cameras, spies, and this guy up there to stop the kids from cheating? The University of Central Florida (of course, Florida), is using new technology and Big Brother spy tactics to stop students from cheating it up all over campus. From the NY Times article,

When a proctor sees something suspicious, he records the student’s real-time work at the computer and directs an overhead camera to zoom in, and both sets of images are burned onto a CD for evidence.

Taylor Ellis, the associate dean who runs the testing center within the business school at Central Florida, the nation’s third-largest campus by enrollment, said that cheating had dropped significantly, to 14 suspected incidents out of 64,000 exams administered during the spring semester.

“I will never stop it completely, but I’ll find out about it,” Mr. Ellis said.

As the eternal temptation of students to cheat has gone high-tech — not just on exams, but also by cutting and pasting from the Internet and sharing of homework online like music files — educators have responded with their own efforts to crack down.

We kind of want to smack this little Ellis kid across the head. Hey, cheating should be earned. It is a fun game. Professor or grad assistant puts their head down, cheat your ass off, its your god given right. Ellis, let the kids be.

Arrested Motion and the Fame Festival websites have great images of Sam3’s pieces done in Grottaglie, Italy ahead of the September FAME Festival. The Madrid-based artist is one of our favorites, and we put him in that Blu, Os Gemeos, Escif, Ericailcane, and JR territory of just incredible outdoor work that has transcended the genre of street art into a whole new world, almost like narrative work done in large-scale outdoor worlds.
