Franzen on Twitter: “Twitter is unspeakably irritating. Twitter stands for everything I oppose. It’s hard to cite facts or create an argument in 140 characters … It’s like if Kafka had decided to make a video semaphoring The Metamorphosis. Or it’s like writing a novel without the letter ‘P’… It’s the ultimate irresponsible medium. People I care about are readers … particularly serious readers and writers, these are my people. And we do not like to yak about ourselves.”
Shit, does that mean he hates TCR, too? (via)

Love this bookshelf, although doesn’t the Northeast deserve a few more books? They are quite literate up there. And Portland? They have the biggest indie bookstore in Powell’s? We got to fill this thing up people. Great idea though.
We are loving this project by Iran-born, Netherlands-based Ashkan Honarvar. Here we have a series of collages inspired by Sufjan Stevens’ album The Age Of Adz. In this project, “Honarvar’s perspective focuses on children, their development, self-discovery, fears, uncertainties and dreams, expressing them through the addition of colourful, organic shapes. In these collages you see all these facets. The struggles, but also hope and dreams.”

Catalog Gallery Presents : Ben Tour ‘Notes From the Underground’ from Catalog Creative on Vimeo.
Old friend, Vancouver-based Ben Tour, is set to open a new series of works on paper at Catalog Gallery in Vancouver this Thursday, March 8. Tour says of the work, “This show is a collection of works on paper and painted installations. I approached the imagery as a series showcasing my style and preferred materials and techniques. My themes involve strength and fragility, love and regret and aim to illustrate the universal vulnerability that is the human condition.”

Named after a song by Dezarie, Remed took 12 days to finish this piece, writing “At first I worked in a horizontal way, and even if during the process I was already doubting of this choice, it is only once the drawing was finished, that I chose to make the character stand vertical… while listening to that song I love.”

One of our favorites, whom we have written about on TCR many times, is Swedish artist EKTA, who both in abstract, portrait, and mural techniques, makes stunning contemporary works. We just saw a few pieces that the artist posted on their site… and of course, we want them.

For $29m, you can have a 9-bedroom, 15-bath, 4-half bath, 32,683 square foot, 2-story, 15-car garage home that used to house Michael Jordan. The thing is, do you keep that #23 on the gate? Because my CYO number was 12, and those were some good memories of sitting on the bench while the coach’s son played.
Lake County, here we come.
