So good. A classic Upper Playground from back in the day for Vice Canada, featuring Jurassic 5′s DJ Nu-Mark. We had that hoodie… it was an absolute classic to have whilst we were in college.

Dirty Hands chronicles the life and career of David Choe from 2000 to 2007 as documented by his close friend and director, Harry Kim. The documentary reveals the highs and lows involved in the upwards trajectory of David’s career using the same “no holds barred” style that makes his artwork so unique and sought-after. Ultimately, the film unveils a explicit yet personal story of the trials of a succeeding talent, inspirational to any artist.
Originally, the “Dirty Hands” documentary premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival to multiple sold-out screenings and went on to win the Best Documentary award at the San Diego Asian Film Festival. It was also featured as the closing film at the MoMA’s “All the Wrong Art: Juxtapoz Magazine on Film” documentary series. It is now available on DVD for the first time ever through Upper Playground.

Ryan McGinness will be opening a new show, well, an old concept in new form, at Subliminal Projects called “SponsorshipRedux.” As McGinness and Subliminal note, “The SponsorshipREDUX project is a (re)presentation of the 2003 Sponsorship project. In 2003, Ryan McGinness produced an exhibition at BLK/MRKT Gallery in Los Angeles that consisted of nothing more than corporate sponsors’ logos sized on the gallery walls according to their level of sponsorship for the exhibition. McGinness explains, “My hope was that a content-deprived exhibition comprised of only sponsorship logos would create enough pause for us to consider both the fine art of corporate sponsorship and the corporate sponsorship of fine art.”
And Upper Playground is a sponsor. We get our logo played with. By McGinness.

If you are into Alex Pardee, like we are, here is 172 pages, 250 illustrations worth of goodness from our parents at Upper Playground. Pardee’s new Awful/Resilient book is a great Mother’s Day gift, even though that already happened this year. But its always Mother’s Day, isn’t it?

Upper Playground is releasing a collection of three t-shirts from San Francisco based graffiti artist, PEZ, entitled “The City”.
As a graffiti and sticker artist, PEZ has made a literally indelible mark on the city of San Francisco. His stickers are more prevalent than the incessant dreariness of San Francisco’s weather and his graffiti work continues to pop up around every turn. This t-shirt collection is influenced by the mark that the San Francisco Bay Area has left on PEZ, though. Regarding the tees he states, “I wanted to make designs that showed my love for the Bay Area.”
The PEZY Playground, All City and SF PEZ t-shirts are available at the Upper Playground online store and at all Upper Playground retail locations.
