We read awhile back about this project, where in 1977, Andy Warhol painted and customized a BMW M1. As the video notes, Warhol “is reported to have spent all of 23 minutes painting the car. He ran his fingers through the paint to leave a personal touch.”

Warhol explained the sweeping strokes of his car, “I tried to portray speed pictorially. If a car is moving really quickly, all the lines and colors are blurred.”

First off, if you are an art fan, and love art books, Leadapron in West Los Angeles is one of the most tasteful, and beautiful, art bookstores we have ever been in. The Citrus Report went and checked the shop out yesterday, but also to see Purple Fashion Magazine editor, Olivier Zahm’s new photo exhibit, “The Secrets of Photographing Women.” The show is ridiculous in that it shows a fictional world that only Zahm lives in, but in Leadapron, it looks really nice. The show is up until June 12, check it out.

Mainly, just go to Leadapron to see this Warhol print for his 1968 show in Sweden, his first international retrospective.

At least, that is what the bidders said. Roy Lichtenstein topped Warhol at the Christie’s auction last night with a big sell to a bidder who has more money than that guy we saw this morning scrambling for change to get some M&M’s for breakfast. At least, we assume.

According to the Times, “Lichtenstein’s 1964 painting “Ohhh … Alright …,” a comic book image of a forlorn woman clutching a telephone, brought $38 million, or $42.6 million including Christie’s fees, a record for the artist at auction.”

Warhol’s “Big Campbell’s Soup Can With Can Opener (Vegetable),” a 1962 painting, went for just $23.8m.

Wa-wah-wah-waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
