Mangchi (David Choe, Money Mark, Heather Leather and DVDASA Band) debuted in Downtown Los Angeles, playing their first ever live show in front of a capacity crowd. Los Angeles based, Korean-American artist, David Choe, aka painter, troublemaker, illustrator, muralist, traveler, performer and host of the DVDASA show, releases his well recognized Munko whale as a plush toy this week.
The Munko whale first appeared in the Los Angeles graffiti scene as a David Choe signature, randomly popping up on pavements, concrete walls, over passes and freeways with quotes and food for thought.

A recent collaboration between Mexican American artist and legendary muralist El Mac, and All-Star basketball player Blake Griffin results in a striking mural covering the facade of a giant building in DTLA. Organized by Redbull, the aim was to bring to life the performance of an athlete through the eyes of an artist which El Mac aimed to accomplish. TODAY, Los Angeles based painter, illustrator, DVDASA host, and entertainer, David Choe is opening his first exhibition in almost 4 years at Museo Universitario del Chopo in Mexico City, Mexico. The show consisting of a giant colorful mural in Choe’s signature “dirty style” looms over a new collection of collage sculptures, found object installations and a great number of watercolors and paintings that he’s produced in an incredibly short period of time.
Choe’s new body of work, bearing the spirit and weight of his 4 years of silence seem to explode with aggressive colors, textures and details. His characters shaped by his whimsical sense of humor and delicate techniques maintain Choe’s reputation as a master painter of his generation and does not disappoint.
